My name is Scott Heffernan. I spent the last ten years designing and marketing products for iconic Seattle toy and novelty company Archie McPhee. While there, I created Finger Hands — tiny hand finger puppets modeled after my own hand — that have become one of the most popular products in company history.

My work is inspired by my love of toys, kitsch, and popular culture. I grew up skateboarding; skateboarding inspired me to get into photography; photography sparked an interest in graphic design. I stay in touch with my inner kid-at-heart to keep me passionate and creative. I like to look for beauty in unlikely places and give subjects that aren’t usually taken very seriously the thoughtful treatment they (may or may not) deserve.

My mom was an artist and my dad is an aerospace engineer who loves making spreadsheets. I’ve developed an interesting combination of their traits that are well-suited for a business-type creative. I’m a well-rounded mix of innovative and organized. I enjoy both the artistic and business aspects of the design world.

I grew up in Salt Lake, lived in the Seattle area for 15 years, and have now moved back to Utah. I have four sons and my wife is a sex therapist — so there’s never a dull moment!

Here is my résumé.
